Can SOWP Holder Work Even if Spouse Left Canada or Laid Off

My husband has closed employer specific work permit until October 2021 and he has NOC A level job. I came to Canada as a dependent spouse work permit holder (same expiry date). He recently has been laid off due to COVID-19. I want to ask that can I work even if my husband has lost his employment? Another question, Can I stay in Canada and keep on working if my husband decides to go to India for a while?

Yes. You can work in Canada even if your spouse decides to leave Canada. Work permits are valid until the day they expire. You can continue working regardless of where your spouse is, however, you would not be able to get an extension of your work permit unless your spouse gets one. Otherwise you become eligible for your own status in Canada. There are very less chances that it could be questioned on next application why your spouse left and you stayed behind.
