My grandparents want to visit my family in Canada. Which option would be better for them: single entry visitor visa or multiple entry visa?

Since February 06, 2014, almost every applicant who has applied for a temporary resident visa for Canada have been typically granted a multiple entry visa by the visa posts. If the visa officer doubts the intentions of the applicant or if the applicant’s passport validity is less than 10 years, then the visa officer will typically grant a single entry visa with the duration being lesser than the expiration of the passport.

    Hello, Harjap

It is always a good idea to apply for the multiple entry visitors visa. Let’s try to understand first what is a multiple entry visa? A multiple entry visa allows visitors to come and go from Canada for six months at a time, without having to reapply each time. It can be valid for up to 10 years, or one month before your passport expires, whichever is earlier. You must arrive in Canada on or before the expiry date on your visa.

When you are issued a multiple entry visa with a validity of up to 10 years, you do not have to apply again and again. Although you may have 10 years multiple entry visitor visa, the duration of your stay in Canada depends upon the discretion of the visa officer at the port of entry. Usually, you are granted a stay of 6 months unless otherwise indicated by date under the immigration stamp on your passport.
