I have a question regarding maternity leave and its impact on work permit. I am on a work permit in Canada. How does my maternity leave affect my work permit? If I extend my maternity leave, Do I need to inform IRCC? Will extending my mat leave affect my work permit at all? Also, when I will apply for permanent residency, will this time on maternity leave discounted from any accrued experience? I haven’t been able to find any of this information online.

Maternity leave does not need to be communicated to IRCC at all, however leave will not be counted in PR application work requirements. You should not count maternity leave months towards your work experience in Canada. Extending your maternity leave will not effect your work permit.
