Hi, I am in this situation that my PR card is expired and I completed only 537 days out of 730 days residency requirement. Our whole family is in Canada and only my father (having visitor visa of Canada) is in India who went to India on 11 March 2020 (before covid started) and got ill there as he is a heart patient (age 73 years) and no one to care him in India. So in this situation of panic for our family I came to India on 25 May 2020 by taking the Air India special flight. Please advise me if it is possible for me to return to Canada or I will loose my PR status. I also have USA visitor visa valid un till 2029. I will really appreciate any help in this situation. Regards 289-806-4001

PR Card is not a status document, it is a token to board a commercial vehicle (air plane, ship, boat, ferry, train, bus, truck, tow truck, taxi etc.) to come to Canada. Once the lockdown opens, you can come to USA since you have a valid visa. From USA you can come to border of Canada in a non-commercial vehicle and CBSA officer can hopefully allow you entry upon reviewing the explanation and medical documents for your father’s illness. You will not be allowed to board the plane directly to Canada. Once you are in Canada and eligible (730 Days condition s-28 of IRPA) for submitting your application to renew your PR Card, you can go ahead with your plans. We wish Good Health and Long Life for your father !

Sir, I am really thankful to you for your valuable response. You relieved my tension. I was thinking that I have lost my PR and have to apply for visitor visa. Thanks a lot.
