Singh & Kaur Acceptable Surnames For Canadian Immigration
-
I am going to make my express entry profile. I and my wife are baptized Sikhs; therefore, we use or surnames as ‘Singh’ and ‘Kaur’ respectively. My friend told me you have to provide your surname (caste name). We the Sikhs do not believe in caste system; therefore, would surnames ‘Singh’ and ‘Kaur’ be acceptable to Canadian immigration?

‘Singh’ and ‘Kaur’ are acceptable surnames to Immigration Refugees & Citizenship Canada (IRCC). Approximately 10 to 15 years ago, this issue was raised by then Citizenship and Immigration Canada (CIC) but when Sikh scholars through politicians explained the issue, it was accepted that SINGH and KAUR are acceptable surnames.
